The truth about Rothschild family was first investigated in 2015 by a British newspaper citing the family’s participation in the battle of Waterloo. The theory despite being false is said to have deep antisemitic roots, and over time has been employed as a means to promote hate against Jews.

The Rothschild Family

The Rothschild family is an influential banking dynasty that started in Frankfurt. The empire was established by Mayer Amschel Rothschild in the 18th century and continued to grow and expand under his five sons namely, Nathan Mayer, James Mayer, Salomon Mayer, Carl Mayer, and Amschel Mayer. The Truth About Rothschild Family

A group of people standing next to a body of water

In 2015 a British newspaper printed a revelation of anti-Semitic claims against the Rothschilds. The first conspiracy theory exposing the “truth about Rothschild family” was published in a political pamphlet called “Histoire édifante et curieuse de Rothschild Ier, roi des juifs”, back in 1846. The pamphlet recounted the history of the Rothschild family and the influence they had in Europe. The pamphlet cited Nathan Rothschild’s involvement in the Battle of Waterloo. On June 18, 1815, Rothschild was said to have hurried to the Belgian coast right after the battle to cross the English Channel in the whilst a thunderstorm in exchange for a large sum. He had apparently arrived in London 24hours before Napoleon’s defeat was officially announced, according to the pamphlet, he had won 20 million francs, along with his other brothers, collecting a total profit of 135 million in that fatal year.

Debunking The Conspiracy Theory

Though gaining immense popularity across Europe, this pamphlet putting forward the truth about the Rothschild family was identified to be both flawed and dangerous. It was found that on June 18, 1815, neither was Nathan Rothschild anywhere near Waterloo nor was there a storm over the English Channel during that time. And although the Rothschilds did profit from the war against Napoleon, the claim that they made millions from announcing the Allied victory at Waterloo was proved to be untrue.

Rothschild family’s rapid accumulation of wealth and power had led to a rampant anti-Semitic outrage. The Rothschild family was targeted for being Jews by conspiracy theorists to lay an example of Jews allegedly using their money to control global financial institutions. These claims, though condemned and proven false, have continued to persist. The public readily believing these claims on the truth about Rothschild family has drawn wide attention towards European history of anti-Semitism which has not only led to anti-Semitic sentiments in Europe but across various continents as well.
